A quiet affair
Daltrey & Townshend team up for the Teenage Cancer Trust charity

by Timothy Tilghman

Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend appeared as an acoustic duet, closing the eighth annual Teenage Cancer Trust charity concert series on Sunday, April 13, 2008. Held at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London, this was their first joint performance as The Who since staging 2007 World Tour appearances around the globe.

Daltrey and Townshend have appeared as an acoustic duo previously for special occasions. Their anticipated duet concluded this year's Teenage Cancer Trust shows. The British icons raised funds for the TCT and entertained the Hall audience with a rare acoustic set that drew tunes from the Who's Next era and Endless Wire.

Daltrey commented, "I was really thrilled when Pete called up and offered to do this. It's a great way of closing another fantastic week of shows for Teenage Cancer Trust". Additional performers for the finale date included Joan Armatrading, David Gray, Newton Faulkner and Amy MacDonald.

Daltrey is a patron with the Teenage Cancer Trust and has sponsored TCT gigs at the Royal Albert Hall in the past. The 2008 concert series featured performances by Madness, Noel Fielding, Paul Weller with Steve Cradock and Duffy, the Fratellis and Muse.

The Teenage Cancer Trust strives to ease the lives of teenagers and young adults suffering with cancer. TCT initiatives are funded by private donations and endeavors from public concerts as well as local community functions and individual contributions.
